The Bromley Advice and Information Network was funded by the Advice Services Transition Fund administered by the Big Lottery until September 2015.
The membership network of information and advice providers in the London Borough of Bromley that was created by BAIN still exists, and residents of Bromley over the age of 16 can still get access to independent, free and quality advice, so that they are better informed to make choices and achieve better outcomes.
BAIN'S Steering Group was comprised of 5 independent, principle local advice giving organisations:
- Age UK Bromley & Greenwich
- Bromley Citizens Advice Bureau
- Bromley & Lewisham Mind
- Bromley Mencap
- Carers Bromley
How BAIN helped people
Case study 1
One of our members recently helped a Bromley resident, a recovering alcoholic who also had mental health problems, to sort out their debt issues. This involved supporting completion of a Debt and Mental Health Evidence Form and liasing with utility companies and credit card issuers and resulted in circa £8,000 of debts being written off. "I don't know what to say. This is life changing stuff. I can hardly believe it. I thought I would have this albatross around my neck for the rest of my working life. And so, starting a teacher training course with the view to carving out a new career and a new healthy happy life, was a big, but heavy step. Now I feel lighter! I feel new! This is exactly what I needed. I have just finished my 18 month treatment program, I'm starting my post graduate course and I'm debt free! I am so grateful for your help. I hope you realise how much this helps me. Thank you thank you thank you thank you."
